Final Year Project

Project Title

Autonomous Tow Truck Project

Description

Toyota Indus Motor Company is aims to convert a manual tow truck into an autonomous vehicle to address logistical challenges in its factory. The system will navigate the semi-structured industrial environment. This includes path planning and localization for both indoor and outdoor areas while considering attached loads, obstacles, and dynamic conditions between source and destination points. The system integrates GPS, LiDAR, IMU, wheel encoders, EKF, and AMCL for precise localization and navigation. The primary objective is to automate material transportation, reducing double handling, inefficiencies, and operational delays. By optimizing routes and minimizing human intervention, the autonomous tow truck improves safety, enhances productivity, and ensures a smoother supply chain process. This project aligns with Toyota’s lean manufacturing approach by reducing logistical waste (Muda) and enhancing overall operational efficiency within the factory.
